Antique Hand Engraved Birds Pinchbeck Gold Pocket Watch Locket

In excellent condition with some patina and no metal decay. It is hand engraved on both sides with the most lovely pattern of birds, garlands, and flowers. It is exquisite.

There are two cartouches on the covers, one on each side. One is engraved with a tiny homestead, the other is blank for initials.

There is a tiny dimple on the blank shield and one off to the side of the shield.

This round pocket watch style locket measures 1 1/16 inches (27mm) in diameter. It is 1.5 inches tall including the bow.

There are no marks.

Pinchbeck is an alloy of copper and zinc resembling gold, used in watchmaking and costume jewelry. It was created in the 1700s by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London watchmaker.
When this locket was made, pinchbeck was a popular choice for jewelry worn in the stagecoaches.
