Created in the PreAdored® studio, this one-of-a-kind conversion necklace brings together two antique jewelry elements. Its centerpiece is a late Victorian hand-carved mother-of-pearl horn, circa 1890s, set in tested yellow gold fill. A fragment from an antique watch-chain fob adds an original clear paste stone framed by rose-cut garnet-colored glass.
Horn, claw and cornucopia forms carried closely related talismanic meanings in Victorian jewelry. A claw could represent strength and protection, while a horn was associated with good fortune. Read as a cornucopia or horn of plenty, the form symbolized abundance and prosperity. Carved in luminous mother-of-pearl, this example has a gentler, more refined presence.
Pairs of natural ruby beads alternate with solid 18K gold beaded rondelles, individually wire-wrapped in sterling silver with every link wrapped closed and interlocked. A natural garnet cabochon in gold-washed sterling forms the central connector. The antique elements are permanently integrated into the design.
