A beautifully preserved circa 1960s Leo zodiac medal pendant by the Medallic Art Co. of New York. Its roaring lion, formal roundel, toothed border, and deeply sculpted relief give the Mid-Century medal a distinctly Victorian Revival character.
The lion strides across a textured landscape in a heraldic, passant-inspired pose. Its mouth is open in a roar, while the dramatically patterned mane sweeps upward behind its head. Exceptionally sharp minting defines the face, mane, muscular body, paws, tail, and surrounding terrain.
“LEO” and the zodiac glyph appear above the lion. In the tropical zodiac, Leo includes birthdays from July 23 through August 22.
The reverse is signed “Medallic Art Co. New York” with a copyright symbol. Founded in Manhattan in 1903, Medallic Art Co. was known for fine-art medals, commemorative issues, and award medallions. The company remained in New York until 1972, and a related Leo zodiac design is documented in 1967, supporting a circa 1960s date.
Excellent vintage condition. The silver plating remains intact with no visible loss. The sharply struck relief retains exceptional definition, and the softly aged surface enhances the sculptural details. The bail and connecting ring are secure.
