This adorable Dutch couple fur clip set was designed by Alfred Katz in 1946. Both are solid sterling silver with gold wash and appointed with rhinestones. The pair is featured on pages 84 as a photo and page 86 with details of "American Costume Jewelry, 1935-1950" by Brunialti. It was also featured in Woman's Wear Daily as part of Coro's Autumn Collection preview on July 5, 1946.
Seldom seen, each measures 1 9/16" square. Both boy and girl are marked, he has the Coro Craft and Sterling mark and his pin back is marked Sterling. The girl figure is marked only on the pin back.
Condition of the two fur pins is excellent with extremely light surface wear but since they are Sterling, there is some patina in the hard to reach areas.
Originally designed as a duette, the pin-back where you attached the two fur clips has been lost to time. Worn as individual pins they are best on heavier fabrics due to their combined weight of about 32 gram.
There are no patent marks or reference to a pending patent, indicating this pair was made in the late 40's to early 50's. According to Brunialti's book, the mechanism on the back which holds the pair together as a brooch has a patent number of 1798867.View full product details
