Victorian, 1830s to 1900s
Unusual antique cameo lavalier pendant necklace, the cameo is hand carved of Tiger Eye hardstone and depicts the Greco Roman god of war, Mars, as a helmeted soldier. The pendant is articulated and measures approximately 1.5" overall. The well carved and detailed cameo is 9/16" in diameter including the rope frame. The features are nicely done with mustache and beard plus feathers on the helmet and outline of his breastplate.
Included is a delicate 10k Gold chain, approximately 18" long. Chain is newer than the pendant which dates from around 1900's.
Both carefully tested, pendant is marked 10K and OB for Ostby & Barton on the bail. Chain is marked on the chain tag.
Ostby & Barton were the foremost fine jewelry producers at the turn of the 20th Century. Mr. Ostby traveled the globe every year to hand pick the gems used in their designs. In one fateful trip, he perished as a passenger of the Titanic. Their jewelry is very desirable. Cameos, pendants and necklaces are the hardest to find.
This information is intended to help you understand our sizing methods.
Please note many small measurements are in millimeters. It is a Jewelry Industry standard for accuracy.
You can download and print the Ring Sizing Chart. Make sure to follow the directions closely for best accuracy. Most rings can be sized unless otherwise noted. Cost of sizing is not included, please inquire with ring information and size required for an estimate.
Our model's hand is approximately 5" wide or 12 cm as seen in this image:
We measure bracelets based on their wearable length, not the actual length. We do this because chunky bracelets will have a smaller wearable length than the actual length as the thickness of the bracelet reduces the internal measurement. If at any time you would like the actual length and is not in the description, please feel free to contact us.
