Stunning design and workmanship, a beautiful woman rises from the ocean waves. This match safe is an authentic period piece, not a reproduction. The technique used to create the raised scene is called Repousse. The metal is heated and pushed out in the areas where the design is intended. The beautiful scene features water fowl and clouds in the background, it is a truly beautiful Venus rising from the ocean.

This gorgeous antique silver vesta or match safe measures 2 3/8" by almost 1 1/2" wide and is 9/16" at the deepest point.

Back is hand engraved in large ornate script which resembles a ribbon. The initials appear to be SSC but as with many ornate scripts different persons will see different letter.

In very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and regular use. A bit of wear to the front and dimples on the back. Please keep in mind this piece is over 120 years old, dating from the 1890's. They were generally carried in a gentleman's vest pocket, attached to his watch chain by the loop near the hinge which works great. This vesta would make a fabulous pill box.

Marked Sterling, 925, Fine and the maker's mark, H and B juxtaposed in parenthesis. Maker is unknown.

Our Estate Jewelry measuring guide - model's hand.

We measure bracelets based on their wearable length, not the actual length. We do this because chunky bracelets will have a smaller wearable length than the actual length as the thickness of the bracelet reduces the internal measurement. If at any time you would like the actual length and is not in the description, please feel free to contact us.
