This is a stunning brooch! Designed as the outline of a flower, it depicts a group of flying cranes and a group of wading cranes in the water. The extremely detailed hand painted motif is further adorned with gold moriage (raised gold enamel).
The detail is just simply amazing. The subject matter is very desirable. It is signed, marked with the Satsuma Shimazu crest on the back. Estimated to date from around the 1920s, making it a true antique.
This amazing hand painted brooch is approximately 2 1/4" in diameter. It has a Sterling Silver setting. The patina has been left in place and the dark silver is simply the best for it.
The brooch and painting are in very good condition with some crazing due to age and a tiny point of loss in the front due to poor storage by the previous owner.
