Such a darling token of love made for someone with the initials WJ. It was made from a coin, the obverse depicts Britania, probably a 1 shilling silver coin. Meticulously hand engraved, framed with a garland of berries.
The practice of making jewelry from coins was so prevalent at one time, it was outlawed for a while. Refined silver was scarce, coins not so much, so coins were frequently used.
The charm is really lovely, with skilfully hand engraved initials.
It measures 5/8" in diameter not including the ring on the top.
In good condition, ca 1880s, there are scratches over the initials. Priced accordingly.
We added a split ring (like a keychain) to make it easier to add to a charm necklace or bracelet.
