Description
This vintage anthracite drusy heart pendant is hand-carved and set with an old rhinestone at the center. Known as the “Pennsylvania Diamond” anthracite is a form of coal. The drusy circle is naturally sparkly. The material is also very lightweight with a smooth-to-the-touch texture and a shimmery, slightly metallic, finish.
Based on the rhinestone cut, this lovely heart pendant dates from the 1930s. A similar example is part of the National Museum of African American Art & Culture, a branch of the Smithsonian. You can see it here: https://nmaahc.si.edu/object/nmaahc_2016.70.2
The approximate measurements are 1 1/4 inches tall including the ring on the top, by 1 inch wide, and 1/4 inch deep at the center of the rhinestone.
The condition is excellent.
