A substantial antique Victorian gold filled locket necklace with paste stone edging, bloomed gold finish, and a beautifully engraved monogram on the reverse.
This large round Victorian locket has a softly glowing matte, or bloomed gold, finish on both sides. The front cover is framed with engraved edging and was originally set with eight paste stones. Time has darkened the remaining stones, and three stones are missing, giving the piece the gently weathered character of an antique keepsake that has lived a long life.
The reverse is beautifully hand engraved with the initials E and M in flowing script. The monogram adds a personal, sentimental quality and makes the back of the locket just as lovely as the front.
The interior is in excellent condition and can accommodate up to two photos. One photo may be held by pressure, while the other side has a frame. There are no clear photo covers.
The locket hangs from a 21 inch cable chain with an early box clasp. The clasp is secure, and the chain gives the necklace an elegant antique length. There are no marks, and the necklace was carefully tested to verify gold filled metal content.
