Description
This antique Victorian bloodstone banded agate gold filled spinner fob is over 120 years old.
Bloodstone is also known as heliotrope. It is a dark green with red spots that resemble droplets of blood, hence its name. It is ruled by Mars, the god of war.
The banded agate is a similar shade to carnelian, and it has a white layer, which can be seen on the profile.
The stones are flat circular cabochons set on each side, and the setting swivels on the frame. The frame is lovely, with a carved look.
The fob measures 1 3/8 inches tall, including the ring on the top. It is 13/16 inches at the widest point.
It is in excellent condition, dating from the late 1890s. There is a partial mark on one side of the frame, which is not legible. It was carefully tested to verify the gold filled content.
The condition is very good. There is a tiny spot where the fob was tested previously and has lost some of the gold. It is not obvious to the naked eye.
