A wonderfully sculptural vintage Brazilian necklace inspired by the traditional penca de balangandãs of Bahia. Six handmade dimensional charms gather in a lively cluster, representing protection, music, food, home life, and abundance.
The charms include a protective figa hand, a berimbau musical bow, a chimarrão vessel, a shallow pan associated with vatapá, and two regional fruits. The hollowware figa is especially detailed, with repoussé-style scrollwork, a shield-like cuff, and a tiny raised-dot bangle.
Dating approximately to the 1950s–1970s, necklaces like this were enjoyed by Brazilians and visitors and could be personalized by adding meaningful charms.
