Antique Sterling Silver Oval Hinged Box – Engraved Crowned Heraldic Shield and Initials L.R.
This is a gorgeous, very sweet, antique sterling silver snuff box or treasure box. It makes a wonderful pillbox or stamp box to upscale your desk.
This box is entirely made by hand. It is fabricated from thick sterling silver sheet and very sturdy. The outside is hand engraved. The cover depicts an engraved crowned heraldic shield and the initials L and R are stamped at the center, above a leas or acorn. This shields sits gracefully at the crossing point of two laurel branches.
The sides, edges, top, and bottom are accented with hand engraved patterns. The workmanship is excellent. You can tell it was made with love, pride, and expertise.
There are two marks along the edge. Both are cameo depictions. One is a long haired profile and the number 2. The other is a mythological face. There are no initials or a particular maker s mark that I could identify. It has been carefully tested.
It measures 3 inches long, 1 5/8 wide and 7/8 tall.
The hinge is in excellent shape. The interior is gilded and some of the gilding is lost around the edge of the base, where the friction of closing and opening the box has worn it out. Everything else is in excellent condition.
It weighs approximately 2 ounces.

- Returns are gladly accepted for store credit when you notify us within 7 days of order delivery. Returned items must be unworn, undamaged, and unaltered.
- Electronic store credits are issued to your account with PreAdored® and do not expire. Shipping charges are not credited. There are no refunds.
- Items which were discounted by any means or altered (as in the case of sized rings) are Final Sale and cannot be returned.
- If there is loss or damage in transit please let us know right away so we can assist with the insurance claim. The insurance coverage ends 7 days after delivery, so please don’t wait.
- If you need to return an item, please visit our self-service Returns Center for the RMA number. Returns sent without an RMA Number will be refused. We will respond quickly with instructions.
- We regret that we cannot cancel orders that have been shipped. Unshipped orders will incur a 15% restocking fee.
