A functional magnifying loupe becomes an unusually handsome lavalier-style necklace in this circa 1950s–1960s Victorian Revival design. The large round lens hangs from a finely detailed handle ornamented with applied orbs, creating a look reminiscent of Victorian and Byzantine Revival metalwork.
The 30-inch scroll-link chain passes through an ornate adjustable slide, allowing the length and proportions of the drop to be changed. The slide moves smoothly and remains securely in position. A spring ring clasp completes the necklace.
The loupe provides approximately 2× magnification and works well for reading small print, examining jewelry, or viewing fine details. Its lens is clear and free from scratches and chips.
Marked “Pat. Pend.” on the reverse of the slide. The elaborate construction and long adjustable chain evoke jewelry by Goldette, although this necklace is unsigned and is not being attributed to that maker.
Excellent vintage condition. The gold plating remains exceptionally rich, the slide works properly, and the lens is clear. Dark areas visible on the polished surfaces in some photographs are ambient reflections rather than discoloration.
