Description
Such a darling token of love made for someone with the initials WJ. It was made from a coin, the obverse depicts Queen Victoria, probably a 3 pence coin. What is unique about this love token is the crown on the face which is original to the coin design.
The practice of making jewelry from coins was so prevalent at one time, it was outlawed for a while. Refined silver was scarce, coins not so much, so coins were frequently used.
The charm is really lovely, with skilfully hand engraved initials.
It measures 5/8″ in diameter not including the ring on the top.
In good condition, ca 1880s, there are scratches over the initials. Priced accordingly.
We added a split ring (like a keychain) to make it easier to add to a charm necklace or bracelet.
