Antique Victorian Whitby Jet Lily of the Valley Sash Belt Buckle Carved

$228.00

Description

Deeply carved lily-of-the-valley flowers, broad leaves and scrolling foliage rise from the polished surface of this substantial Victorian Whitby jet buckle. Each shaped half mirrors the other, creating an elaborate floral composition when the buckle is closed.

Dating to the late 19th century, likely the 1870s–1880s, the genuine Whitby jet has been tested and is not gutta-percha, vulcanite or black glass. Its original gilt-brass hardware remains firmly attached, and the hook fastens securely. Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
