An elegant personal object with a wonderful sense of provenance, this vintage Kessaris pillbox was made in Italy from 800 silver and preserved in its original beige grosgrain presentation box. Its softly squared form has rounded corners, polished surfaces and finely ribbed sides. The lid is engraved with the interlocking Greek letters Delta and Gamma, creating a distinctive keepsake for a Delta Gamma member or alumna.
The marks provide an unusually complete history. In addition to Kessaris and the 800 silver fineness, the box bears the Italian star, registration number 265 and province code PD. This identifies manufacture in Padova, Italy, after the star-based hallmarking system was introduced in 1968. Two cursive letters mark has not been identified.
