Description
A rare Modernist gold and Amethyst pendant by Kordes & Lichtenfels of Pforzheim, Germany. It is made of a heavy gold plate metal and set with a beautiful man-made amethyst crystal that seems to change colors from warm brown to purple.
The setting is most interesting. The stone sits high. The design is reminiscent of the Inca pyramids as it steps up to the center. The texture is very organic, similar to a coral reef. It is a beautiful pendant.
It measures 1 1/4 inches tall, including the bail, and 3/4 inches at the widest point. The stone table (the flat center) reaches 3/8 inches high.
The man-made stone is amethyst glass, or rather an amethyst simulant. It measures approximately 12mm by 10mm and is emerald cut.
In excellent condition, it is marked “Amerik, K&L” on the bail.
