Description
This beautiful antique Victorian large portrait brooch or pin depicts a lovely woman with light brown hair that spirals down her shoulders. She wears a light blue silk scarf wrapped around her hair, centered by a tiara. It is nicely detailed and well rendered.
The brooch measures 2 1/4 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches at the widest point.
The portrait is prong set against a gilded brass background. The setting is flush, and only the prongs can be seen.
It closes with a C clasp, as it was typical of the time.
The portrait is created by using a transfer method of the basic image onto an oval china piece. After that, little details are added by hand. You can tell those because they are raised like little dots of enamel.
The condition overall is very good, but time has taken away most of the gilded edge painted onto the fine china backdrop. With 20x magnification, one can see small areas of loss scattered around. Nothing obvious or ways to notice. There are no repairs, cracks, or other damage.
It is unsigned and estimated to date from the 1890s.
