History of Fleur Cowles (editor) and Flair:
Fleur Cowles was an American cultural figure of the times who was married to the publisher of Look magazine. She helped him reinvent Look from its lowbrow origins and make it respectable among that all-powerful consumer demographic, postwar American women.
During Flair’s run, she had an entire issue on the city of Paris, hired Ernest Hemingway to write a travel essay, and commissioned Colette to gossip about her love affairs. She also featured Salvador Dalí, Simone de Beauvoir, W. H. Auden, Gloria Swanson, Winston Churchill, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Jean Cocteau.
In Flair’s debut issue, published in February 1950, “an article on the 28-year-old Lucian Freud came liberally accompanied with reproductions of his art-the first ever to appear in America. It was short-lived (14 issues)

- Returns are gladly accepted for store credit when you notify us within 7 days of order delivery. Returned items must be unworn, undamaged, and unaltered.
- Electronic store credits are issued to your account with PreAdored® and do not expire. Shipping charges are not credited. There are no refunds.
- Items which were discounted by any means or altered (as in the case of sized rings) are Final Sale and cannot be returned.
- If there is loss or damage in transit please let us know right away so we can assist with the insurance claim. The insurance coverage ends 7 days after delivery, so please don’t wait.
- If you need to return an item, please visit our self-service Returns Center for the RMA number. Returns sent without an RMA Number will be refused. We will respond quickly with instructions.
- We regret that we cannot cancel orders that have been shipped. Unshipped orders will incur a 15% restocking fee.
