Description
Absolutely gorgeous antique jelly opal gold stick pin! The natural opal is stunning and fairly large. The opal is cut as a double cabochon, both sides are domed.
The colors are amazing. There are a few natural dendrites too, naturally occurring black crystals. The stone sits high on the setting, allowing more light to go through.
The pin is solid 10k yellow gold. It is not marked and carefully tested.
The opal is 14mm tall by 10mm at the widest point. It is approximately 7mm deep at the center. It weighs an estimated 5.7 carats.
The original antique clasp is included. It is beautifully carved and works well. It is made of gold filled and not solid gold.
The pin is 2 1/4 inches long and weighs approximately 2.5 grams not including the clasp.
It includes the original antique presentation box it was found in. The box shows signs of age and does not close well. It is over 130 years old, and so is the pin, dating from the late 1800s.
The pin condition is excellent. There are internal lines on the opal but none seem to reach the surface.
To keep the opal fiery, dip into cool water for a few hours. Never store natural opal on surfaces that will heat up, such as near heating vents or the like. Keep it away from excessive sun exposure. Follow these suggestions and this stock pin will last another century.
Opal is the birthstone for October.
