Description
A beautiful antique Victorian Rose de France amethyst gold ring in soft rose gold typical of the Victorian days. It isn’t as pink as contemporary rose gold. It has a warmer hue than yellow gold.
The amethyst stone is eye and loupe clean, clear, and a delicate shade of lavender. Its color gives it its name, Rose de France. This gem is fairly large, approximately 18mm tall by 13mm at the widest point. It is estimated to weigh 8.6 carats.
The setting is beautiful, too; the undercarriage has a scalloped edge, and the prongs are substantial. The shoulders are hand engraved, although the expert workmanship’s result has softened with time. The shoulders are 8 mm wide, and the band tapers gently to almost 4 mm.
This ring has been previously sized. It is currently size 8 US.
There aren’t any marks at the moment, perhaps lost in the sizing. It was carefully tested. The overall approximate weight is 5.9 grams. It tests as 10k gold.
The condition is very good. There is a little wear consistent with age and no damage. The ring is estimated to date to the 1890s.
Amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February.
