Antique Edwardian Nickel Silver Engraved Ladies’ Purse Compact with a Surprise Inside!
This gorgeous antique purse held a surprise for years! When the purse is opened, on one side is a wallet with spring-loaded holders for three different-sized coins and a tab for rolled paper money.
Just now, I opened the little rolled paper in the paper money compartment for the photos and discovered that what I thought was a pamphlet from the manufacturer was actually an “Allentown Clearing House Certificate.” It is valued at $1.00 and dated March of 1933.
But wait, there is more! Rolled inside the certificate is a 25-cent fractional note from 1874!
The opposite side holds two compacts in a mirror. The compacts have their original custom puffs. One has a tiny bit of powder, and the other a tiny bit of rouge.
The covers are carved and machine-turned in a combination of pin stripes and florals. The little banner over the flowers is engraved with the initials R.E.E.
The condition is very good, with light wear to the surface. All clasps work, open, and stay closed. The mirror is also in excellent condition.
The purse size is 3 inches wide, 1.75 inches tall, and 11/16 inches deep. The handle is a fancy bar chain. It is silver, even though some may look like gold in the photos, depending on your monitor. The drop is 3.5 inches.
